BIOGRAPHY
Sidney Brachfeld
Sidney Brachfeld was born on July 19, 1913, in New York to Henrietta (Yettie) Forst Brachfeld, age 26, and Louis J. Brachfeld, age 29. In Rye his family lived at 95 Coolidge Avenue. Sidney was a graduate of Harrison High School and New York University. He was in the manufacturing business before he entered the service.
Sidney enlisted and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was promoted to captain by the Panama Coast Artillery Command. Capt. Brachfeld was an instructor in anti-aircraft gunnery at the Officers Division of the Coast Artillery Command Training Center. He had been serving with the armed forces guarding the Panama Canal since March 6, 1943.
Sidney was the retired owner of Loring Coat in Newburgh and a 60-year resident of the city. He was a member of Agudas Israel Newburgh, past president of the Otterkill Country Club and the Jewish Community Center in Newburgh and a member of the Boca Woods Country Club
Sidney Brachfeld 84 of Newburgh NY and Boca Raton died Friday July 3, 1998 at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital New York City .
At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife Ann Romanello Brachfeld, two sons Robert Brachfeld of Newburgh and Dr Jay Brachfeld of Boca Raton one daughter Lois Brachfeld of Colorado Springs one daughter-in-law Sally Brachfeld of Boca Raton one granddaughter Hilary Brachfeld of Boca Raton one brother Julian Brachfeld of Stamford Conn and several nieces and nephews
Funeral services were held at the Congregation Agundas Israel, Newburgh NY, Rabbi Aaron Michelson officiated. Burial was in Beth El Cemetery.
